Powder coating – a modern technology with wide applications

What is powder coating?
Powder coating is a modern surface finishing technology for metal parts that uses a dry powder instead of liquid paint. The powder consists of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which are applied electrostatically and then cured in an oven at high temperatures (usually between 160–200 °C). The result is a melted and hardened finish that is smooth, even, and extremely durable.
Advantages of Powder Coating:
Compared to traditional painting methods, powder coating offers multiple benefits:
- High durability – resistant to scratches, impacts, corrosion, UV rays, and chemicals.
- Eco-friendliness – no solvents and no emission of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making it safe for the environment.
- Cost-efficiency – overspray powder can be collected and reused, reducing material waste.
- Premium finish – smooth, drip-free, and uniform coatings.
- Variety of effects – matte, glossy, textured, metallic, and many other finishes are possible.
Applications of Powder Coating:
This technology is widely used across industries and everyday products, including:
- Automotive industry – wheels, body parts, chassis, and components
- Household appliances – ovens, refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.
- Metal furniture – office equipment, cabinets, chairs
- Architectural elements – window frames, railings, facades
- Industrial equipment – machinery, tools, production and storage systems
Common materials for powder coating:
- Steel (galvanized and plain)
- Aluminum
- Stainless steel
- Metal alloys
Some special powders are also used for coating MDF, glass, or plastic, though these require specific preparation.
